Q: What should I wear on my cruise?
A: What you decide to wear on a cruise is very much based on the destination and time of year. For example, on a Caribbean cruise you can expect to pack all the normal holiday essentials such as swimwear, cover-ups, shorts and t-shirt etc.
Q: Is formal wear required for a cruise?
A: Broadly speaking you can dress up as much as you like on a cruise, for some this is a huge part of the whole experience. If you are planning on formal dining in the restaurants there does tend to be a dress code, you can view the specific dress code on your cruise line website. As a guide men may choose to wear smart trousers or jeans, a shirt or polo shirt (jacket optional), ladies may choose to wear a trouser suit or casual dress. There may be some exceptions to this but please do visit your cruise line website.
Tuxedos and cocktail dresses tend to be reserved for formal nights. Most mainstream cruise lines will have formal evenings, there may be as little as one formal night per week but often there is more. Please check your itinerary before travelling. If you prefer not to join in, there is always the option of the buffet restaurants where there is no strict dress code.
